NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP SECURED |
Entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, women's water polo defeated USC 11-7 to capture its third NCAA Championship in four years, the tenth in program history. Having trailed the entire first half, goalkeeper Christine Carpenter and the Stanford defense allowed just one goal in the second half, giving the offense time to mount a flurry of goals to complete the comeback.
With this crown, Stanford is the nation's all-time leader in NCAA team championships, having won 137 titles (71 men, 66 women) and 170 national championships overall. The Cardinal has now secured at least one NCAA team championship in each of the last 49 seasons. |
